Wait…What? & Star & Garter team up to raise money for Bristol homeless charity.

On the first of January 2020 Ibiza club night Wait…What? joins forces with the iconic Star & Garter Pub and the inHope charity to raise money for Bristol's homeless.

Wait…What? launched in Bristol in November offering a Polysexual, LGBTQ+ alternative night of good vibes, performances, and synth, house & disco music mash-ups. Building on the nights success so far, founders Mikey Slade and Andreas Dreja Johansson decided that they wanted to start 2020 with a positive message and give something back to the Bristol community by putting on a free party in aid of the homeless in Bristol.

Wait…What? have not only secured iconic Bristol pub the Star & Garter as their venue for their New Years Day free party but they have also partnered with charity inHope who, through venues such as the well-known Wild Goose Café on Stapleton Road, Bristol, help to transform lives by offering food, shelter, hope and support to the most vulnerable in the community.

The Wait...Wait? New Years Day party, starts at 14.00 at the Star & Garter pub in St. Pauls and goes on until 01.00. It features legendary DJ Jon Pleased Wimmin, Brighton’s DJ Mistress Taylor who will be making her Wait...What? debut alongside Ibiza Wait...What? DJ's Bekka Rawkins & Mikey Slade. The event is hosted by Bristol drag artists Spank, Roach, Sally Savage, Vince Ugly and Macha plus Jack the Lad and compere Mistress Fountain.

“Helping the homeless in Bristol is something which is really close to my heart having experienced being homeless first hand – it’s scary and frightening for anyone but for those from vulnerable backgrounds it can be even more so. We wanted to start 2020 with a positive message, wear our heart on our sleeve, put our money where our mouth is and remember those people whose lives are affected the most at this time of year. We’re delighted to be hosting the event at such a fantastic venue as the Star & Garter. This is a free party but we’d ask anyone attending to give generously and help us raise as much money for inHope as possible,” Mikey Slade, Founder, Wait…What?

“We were pretty blown away when Mikey called to talk to us about using the club night event on News Years Day as a fundraiser for inHope! It’s hard not to see the effects of the housing crisis when you walk around central Bristol and see so many people sleeping on the streets or in tents and caravans, not to mention the hidden homeless sleeping on friends’ sofas. At inHope, we work all year round to help alleviate the emergency crises of homeless and vulnerable people by providing hot food and support at The Wild Goose drop-in Centre, emergency support for women at Spring of Hope women’s night shelter, emergency food parcels at East Bristol Foodbank, and life skills and mutual support groups at Life Recovery for those recovering from addiction. Our future plans are to help people move on from immediate crisis and enable them to have a long term home by opening community houses, and to open a Rehabilitation Centre for those determined to get clean. These future plans for inHope won’t be possible without the support of the wider community and that’s why we’re so thrilled and grateful to be working with Mikey and the other Ibiza DJs and performers!” Sarah Luckwell, Communications & Supporter Engagement Officer, inHope.

“Partnering with LGBTQ+ night Wait..What? to host a New Years Day charity fundraiser was really a no-brainer for us. Not only does it promote the venue to a wider audience but any event which is helping to raise funds for such a key issue, and one which we see on our door step everyday, was something which we couldn’t pass up the opportunity to be involved in. There’ll be music, lots of atmosphere and we’d encourage everyone to have a good time, dig deep and help us raise funds for inHope,” Malcolm Haynes & Family, Star & Garter.
