Nature Queerdos & Max - wild garlic pickle in the woods at Manor Woods

A event on Sunday 26th April. The event starts at 13:30.

Queerdos! We have emerged from our hibernaculums and the energy of spring is truly popping off… let's nourish our bodies and souls by creating wild garlic bud pickles together on this wheelchair accessible event located in an ancient woodland in South Bristol.

On this event, as well as wild garlic, we will learn to identify a wide range of spring plants, including some super poisonous ones that you need to be aware of! And we'll share their edible, medicinal, practical uses and folklore. There will even be some tasty foraged-inspired snacks to try.

When:
Sunday 26th April at 1.30pm - 5pm

Where: Manor Woods (exact location on booking)

What to bring:
Outdoor and weather appropriate clothing and footwear
Your own drinks/snacks as needed
A bag/container for foraging (e.g. paper bag, plastic bag, linen bag, tupperware etc)
Something to sit on as needed
A clean jam jar
A cup

Who are Nature Queerdos?
Nature Queerdos is a community interest company (not for profit social enterprise). Our aim is to improve well-being for LGBTQIA+ people. We do this by offering foraging and other creative nature connection activities throughout the year.

Who is Max?
Max is a 22 year-old, trans nature-lover and forager. He absolutely loves to learn and share about plants.

Max is the co-creator of CitySprout, a card game about urban plants which aims to get people looking at the plants on their doorstep and he featured on Springwatch in 2025 where he spoke about some common urban plants in Bristol.

Access:
Mobility - the route is under 1 mile, paved and wheelchair accessible. There are some slopes and uneven terrain. However, to access the wild garlic requires a short deviation off the paved path onto grass/woodland ground and therefore may require assistance from another person for harvesting. PA tickets are always free. There are no public toilets in the park (nearest accessible toilets are at the daily grind cafe). The event will take place in all weather and the pickle-making will be outside.

Neurodiversity and mental health/ illness access needs:

Come as you are! It’s always OK to take breaks away from the group if needed, wear headphones, stim etc.

Please let us know if you would like a plan of timings and activities or need anything else to engage.

If you have any access needs and want to discuss before attending, please email: [email protected]

Tickets:
Free - for anyone where cost is a barrier to attending
£5 - for those on low income
£10 - suggested price
£15 - resourced - buying this enables someone else to attend for lower price

As a small CIC all donations gratefully received to enable us to continue to offer free and low cost events
