Clifton Poetry Walk with Braid
Walking Tour
Braid will lead a two hour poetry walk starting on Pembroke Road and finishing in Victoria Square. Along the way we will guide you around Clifton and read to you from the work of poets who made their homes here, as well as from our own work, including poems written specially for the event. The route is mainly on the flat, but there are some slopes up to the Observatory and up College Road.
Artist Bios:
Braid is a Bristol-based poetry group, led by Kaycee Hill, Naomi Madlock, and Kate Noakes—united by a love of words and live storytelling. We bring distinct voices together in powerful, themed performances that connect and inspire.
Mixed-heritage poet Kaycee Hill has an MA in Creative Writing from the University of Bristol. She won the inaugural James Berry Poetry Prize in 2023 and her debut collection, Hot Sauce, was published by Bloodaxe later that year. Sound system culture and sonic inheritance form the foundation of her current work, which examines themes of connection and community. Kaycee is a 2025 Eric Gregory Award winner.
Naomi Madlock is co-host of Kiss the Sky poetry night in Bristol. Her work has recently been featured in Clarion, Terrain, Stonework: A poetry anthology, and Anti-Heroin Chic, and others. She was shortlisted for the 2025 Queen Mary Wasafiri New Writing Prize, and won the Gamini Salgado prize for her dissertation collection at the University of Exeter.
Kate Noakes has published nine collections of poetry, a pamphlet and one book of non-fiction. Her most recent book is Sublime Lungs (Two Rivers Press, 2026). Of Welsh heritage, she has a PhD in Critical and Creative Writing from the University of Reading.
