Picnic In The Park at Mina Road Park

A event on Sunday 4th September. The event starts at 20:00.

St Werburghs Community Centre proudly present its second'Mini-Festival' Picnic in the Park, to take place at Mina Road Park on Sunday, 4 September 2011 between 12 and 4pm.

Picnic in the Park is a community-led, fun-filled, family-friendly extravaganza designed specifically to cater for every age and taste, aiming at gathering the whole community together.

Showcasing the best of local Bristolian talent we are lucky to be able to provide a wide variety of free activities and entertainment. For the arty types we have face painting, jewellery-making, silk painting and graffiti workshop with Silent Hobo; for the more relaxed types we have Bristol College of Massage and Bodywork giving massage taster sessions, Rhizome Herbal Clinic, Alexander Technique, Tai Chi, Natural Skincare workshop with Goodness & Wonder and a sewing workshop with Jacqui Ramsey.

Fancy a dance? Norma Daykin is on hand offering Cha-cha-cha and Waltz lessons, or if you're feeling more energetic, we have break-dancing jam. And we've certainly not forgotten the kids we have story telling by Martin Maudsley, a creative dance workshop with Rauken Dance, a bouncy castle and various other activities in conjunction with the'Wild About St Werburghs' project based at St Werburghs City Farm. Contemporary circus group Circomedia will also be putting on one of their exhilarating workshops to entertain all of the family.

Make Your Home Eco and Easton Energy Group will be putting on a series of educational workshops and games, and our ever-popular bike repair workshop will be taking place during the course of the afternoon.

The soundtrack for the day includes the debut performance of old-school all female swing band, Sisters of Swing, traditional Irish band Finnegan's Chin, and the wildly popular'kiddy disco punk' artist, Kid Carpet. Or maybe you'd like to make your own music? Mind Your Music and Senegalese Sabar will be laying on a music-making workshop.

As if this wasn't enough, visitors will be able to sample a wide variety of cuisine from various food stalls, have a go at ping-pong, basketball or simply just chill out with a picnic in our dedicated picnicking area and soak up the atmosphere.

'The event sounds like a great fun, packed with interesting activities and music for all....such wonderful events give the opportunity to local residents to get together in a great community spirit and celebrate all that's good about their neighbourhood while enjoying live music and dance by some of the city's top performance artists' said Dina Ntziora from Neighbourhood Arts Team

The event will be funded via BCC Festival and Events Fund, NP Wellbeing Grant, University of Bristol RAG Fund distributed by Quartet Community Foundation and The Concertina Charitable Trust.

We are eager to find volunteers to help us with various elements of the day, so if you would find this interesting, please get in touch. If you have any other questions, please contact Goska Ong, Centre Manager on 0117 955 1351 or e-mail office@http://www.stwerburghs.org.uk
