Imagination knows no bounds, come - free yours!

Using the movement of your body, voice and spirit, this course gives you the opportunity to play, discover and hone your craft in a safe space, held by a critically acclaimed professional.

Deborah's ability to evoke the intuitive aspects of storytelling, makes her highly regarded performance workshops what they are.

Discover how to embody character & create atmosphere through your telling, and find the subtlety of your emotional connection to the story you've chosen to work with.

TOOLS & FOCUSES

> Vocal Clarity & Exploration of Sound
> Harnessing Movement to Create Images
> Improvisational Spontaneity
> Connection with Our Audience
> Embodying Characters, Textures, Emotions.

WHAT'S THE WORKSHOP LIKE?

The workshop will begin with an introduction to myth & fairytale from Deborah, a brief sharing of your exploration of stories & storytelling so far (all levels welcome). Then you’ll warm up bodies & voices, and play theatre games that connect imagination with your body & movement. Next the group will explore storytelling techniques which you'll be invited to practice, applying them to sections of the myth or fairytale you’ve chosen.

On the second day, you’ll explore narrative structures, the storyteller’s relationship to the audience, and the use of the performance space. The weekend will close with an informal sharing of your unique telling with the workshop group.

Throughout the weekend Deborah will offer tailored 1:1 feedback. The opportunity to be part of a supportive audience and to perform for the workshop group, offers invaluable learning opportunities, as you build your storyteller's tool kit!

Each workshop Deborah holds is a unique journey that's responsive to the group's needs.

WHAT TO BRING

Come with a story that touches you & calls the storyteller within. You don't need to know it off by heart at all, simply read it a couple of times so you are familiar with the shape of the narrative. You may also choose to bring just a small section of a story - something that takes 5-10 minutes to tell.

Please wear clothes you are free to move in & bring a bottle of water. If possible, bring a yoga mat for the warm-up.

TESTIMONIALS

"I was so buzzed after last night's workshop and feel great today for the challenge of exploring play. My partner said I looked really alive... and I felt like my eyes were sparkling. It's like magic!"

Ava Maginnis, Workshop Participant

"The course gives you a feeling of self-worth. It is a safe space which banishes all writers blocks… This course is probably the best creative thing that I have done during the lockdown. I learnt about the power of movement, stillness and silence to help my stream of words become more punctuated.
Deborah was great! She was so positive and found the positive in everyone's performances. …(she) kept the classes challenging but not stressful. The warm up exercises & meditation helped us focus and commit to the performance exercises. Other worries etc safely put aside.”

Andrew Syers, Workshop Participant

"Deborah casts spells over her audience as if storytelling is witchcraft - she is enchanting and captivating"

Emily Trott, Audience Member, Storytelling Sundays
