Burns Night Ceilidh at The Old Market Assembly
See event details

A event held at The Old Market Assembly on Friday 26th January. The event starts at 22:30.

Join us for a night bedecked in tartan and tam o’shanters, where whisky flows and floorboards shake with Bristol's very own folk ambassadors Alex Garden, Archie Churchill-Moss (Tarren) & special guests - plus Michelle Holloway (Bonfire Radicals) calling the dances!

And, as a special January treat for dance lovers, local Bristol brewery Wiper and True are dishing out a free pint of freshly brewed low-alcohol beer for the first fifty people to arrive. Just head to the bar and ask for a Low-Alcohol Kaleidoscope - a 0.5% Pale Ale that's masterfully brewed in Bristol by Wiper and True's team of experts.

- What is a Ceilidh? A Ceilidh (pronounced kay-lee) is a traditional Scottish social gathering featuring live music and dancing. It’s a great way to connect with others and enjoy a night of fun and entertainment.

- Dancing: Don't be intimidated by the thought of dancing! Ceilidh dances are generally easy to learn and are often taught by a caller. The caller will walk you through the steps and provide guidance throughout the dance.

- Basic steps: The most common dance steps in Ceilidh include skipping, jumping, and spinning. Don't worry if you're not a seasoned dancer, the steps are designed to be simple and easy to follow.

- Dress code: There is no specific dress code for Ceilidh, but it's always fun to dress up in traditional Scottish attire. Men can wear kilts or tartan trousers, while women can wear tartan skirts or dresses.

- Music: Ceilidh music is usually played by a live band and features traditional instruments such as the fiddle, accordion, and bagpipes. The music is lively and upbeat, with a strong rhythm that makes it perfect for dancing.

- Have fun: Above all, the Ceilidh is a time to have fun and enjoy the company of others. Don't worry too much about getting the steps right, just relax and enjoy the experience.
