See event details

A gig held at The Old Market Assembly on Friday 29th September. The event starts at 22:00.

10pm: Doors
10:30pm: Ceilidh begins

As Autumn approaches and leaves start to fall, a folk trio blossoms while dances are called...

Join us for a special Autumnal edition of the Old Market Ceilidh, featuring Bristol's leading traditional English folk trio: Tarren + Tess Livingston calling the dances.

Autumnal fancy dress encouraged! Think leaves/trees/nature themed costumes!

- What is a Ceilidh? A Ceilidh (pronounced kay-lee) is a traditional Scottish social gathering featuring live music and dancing. It’s a great way to connect with others and enjoy a night of fun and entertainment.

- Dancing: Don't be intimidated by the thought of dancing! Ceilidh dances are generally easy to learn and are often taught by a caller. The caller will walk you through the steps and provide guidance throughout the dance.

- Basic steps: The most common dance steps in Ceilidh include skipping, jumping, and spinning. Don't worry if you're not a seasoned dancer, the steps are designed to be simple and easy to follow.

- Dress code: There is no specific dress code for Ceilidh, but it's always fun to dress up in traditional Scottish attire. Men can wear kilts or tartan trousers, while women can wear tartan skirts or dresses.

- Music: Ceilidh music is usually played by a live band and features traditional instruments such as the fiddle, accordion, and bagpipes. The music is lively and upbeat, with a strong rhythm that makes it perfect for dancing.

- Have fun: Above all, the Ceilidh is a time to have fun and enjoy the company of others. Don't worry too much about getting the steps right, just relax and enjoy the experience.
