SUPPORT INDEPENDENT ARTIST - AMY TRUE NEEDS YOU……..

From the moment she first stepped foot on our stage we knew she was special, we’d been waiting for Amy for a long time……. Constantly questioning the mainstream narrative, de-platformed by social media giants for doing so, censored at a time when freedom of speech couldn’t be more vital, and not to mention an incredible talent.

All the hard work put into building her profile across multiple platforms torn down in an instant because she dared to speak out……. We at Chai Wallahs and Diplomats of Sound recognise that commitment and endeavour, coupled with raw, heartfelt, unteachable ability needs to be celebrated. Needs backing. Needs stage time and most of all needs an audience. We’re prepared to offer her all of this in Bristol as part of our on going support.

That’s why we’re asking you to come and help us, help her rebuild her profile. First of all we need content. We’re offering you an opportunity to come and be part of a very special night in Bristol, Live, Uncensored, Filmed and Incredible.

Donations only to try and claw back some costs, but that’s not what this night is about, you don’t like the music? Don’t pay….. you do? Donate and be part of maintaining the independent music scene and help artists like Amy gain a foothold in the endlessly competitive music world.

Not only that, but on the same special night we give an opportunity to an emerging artist that too needs our support……She’s coming all the way from Southend on Sea for this one so let’s show some proper Bristol love for the Incredible WavySof.

Amy True
Forward thinking, British Born, Irish/Ugandan Poet and Songwriter Amy True has been delivering her unique fusion of politicised hip hop, jazz and soul since 2011. A true wordsmith, Amy’s steady stream of conscious, iconoclastic verse sits in visceral harmony amongst soulful melodic hooks and rich jazz motifs as she punches out poetry with unapologetic flare.

Having further redefined her craft after a period of deep reflection and personal progression, 2022’s eagerly anticipated release focusses upon raising awareness around the themes of homophobic attacks, police harassment, Covid, Self-love, healing and growth.

Amy has been described as “One of the most influential and talked about personalities of the Hip Hop, Soul and Jazz scene”. Unsurprising given the multitude and magnitude of alliances and affiliations in recent years. From ‘Peoples Army’ to ‘Caxton Press’, from ‘Benjamin Zephaniah’s Revolutionary Minds’ to collaborations with ‘Akala’ on 2015’s “Knowledge is Power’ to ‘Nubya Garcia’, ‘Joe Armon Jones’, and ‘Shabaka Hutchins’ on her critically acclaimed 2017 release ‘Eleven’; True has constantly surrounded herself with a vastly talented pool of incredible artists and musicians, all the while maintaining her position at the forefront of socially aware movements and organisations designed to shape positive change through music, art and education.

Recent releases, appearances and collaborations include a 2021 commission from Sadler’s Wells to create her own video covering the impacts of Lockdown on creativity, this would subsequently be banned by Instagram and serve only to concrete Amy’s opinion that freedom of speech is now more necessary than ever. She featured on ‘The People’s Army’ 2021 album ‘Revival’ and toured with ‘Benjamin Zephaniah & The Revolutionary Minds’. 2020’s ‘Reverse the Curse’ saw all proceeds donated to the ‘Sister System’, an organisation supporting young victims of domestic violence and sexual abuse. She also hosted an online Q&A workshop session for young people to discuss the impacts of Covid as part of ‘Mental Health Awareness week’,

2022 is packed full of True. A brand-new project set for the Autumn see’s the band incorporate elements of Rock and Electronica alongside the established soul/Jazz fusion, A Drum & Bass E.P in collaboration with UK producer Max Taelimb, video’s to be featured on ‘Global Faction’ and an unquenchable thirst for live performance and using her artistic platform to conduct social commentary and reflect the times.
2022 sees Amy True speak Truth in a time that needs it more than ever.

“There really is no one like Amy True. Her singing style is unique, her rap style is distinctive, and she knows how to rock the crowd. Moreover, Amy True is an artist with true integrity”. – Benjamin Zephaniah

“A truly versatile artist, Amy makes music from the heart and that certainly makes her stand out from a sea of passionless clones” – Chemo AKA Telemachus

“@Amy True is sooo dope!!” – Chuck D
