Clubbing, Cruising, Crawling: Queer Ecopoetry & Nightlife at Online
See event details

A event on Monday 8th June. The event starts at 20:30.

Leaning into the darkness of queer club culture, we gather to celebrate the nocturnal life which thrives in ‘impure’ spaces like warehouses, arches and public toilets.

In this writing workshop, through three acts, our pens dance into the collective clubbing effervescence of humans (and non-humans), cruise cemeteries for underground sexualities, and remix the ‘walk of shame’ as a pastoral walk of pride.

The grimy, dirty, sweaty world of clubbing and cruising have much more in common with the real ‘natural’ world – from which queer folks and queer nightlife are so often placed in opposition.

Working with examples from contemporary queer poets, we’ll connect ‘dark ecology’ with the poetry of club and rave culture. The forest floor and dancefloor aren’t so far apart. The cuddle puddle might be the purest form of primordial soup.
