'Gather' Writing Hour at Online
To ensure access for all, we offer a sliding scale

A event on Sunday 8th June. The event starts at 19:00.

Gather Writing Hour

We started the ‘Gather’ zine last year and are currently printing our spring edition with contributors from across the UK. There will be four a year in line with the seasons. The focus of the zine is on sustainable living, ecology and the natural world, making a space for conversation, story-telling and poetry, offering people a place to 'gather'.

We are excited to offer our new writing hour online; a space for you to pick up a pen and notebook and carve out a slip of time for yourself.

We want you to feel at home, like you’re meeting an old friend, where you know you’ll feel comfortable and relaxed, able to share your thoughts and words on the page and out loud if you choose.

What can you expect?

Grounding exercises
Playful writing prompts
Selected words from other writers to inspire you
A place to share your own ideas if you want to
A warm welcome from us
A community of other lovely, creative minds keen to feel connected.
An antidote to the bustle and expectation/pressures of life.

This is an intimate space with twelve places available.

When are the workshops?

Our first writing hour will be held online on: June 8th at 7pm.

Who is it for?

We welcome everyone: long-standing writers, those who have never written a word, all neurodivergence, anxious minds, new parents with small people clambering over them, anyone craving an hour, just for them, that place and space to soften and create.

It will support you to start a writing practice at home or continue on with your own dreams and musings.

We can’t change everything happening in the world, but we can offer a space to be and retreat together.

What do I need?

Bring a notebook and pen, a cup of tea or warm drink and perhaps a candle to light.

How much is it?

To ensure access for all, we offer a sliding scale payment system for each writing hour:

£4 Gift us a pot of tea
£6 Gift us tea for two
£8 Fill our cups so that we can offer more workshops

To express interest and secure your spot, send an email to [email protected]

We will share a Google Hangouts link ahead of time to join.

Who are we?

Samantha Tucker

I have been part of many writing workshops and in the past have taught creative writing and functional skills within offender learning units. Each time I turn up to write with others, I feel nourished and I hope that this ‘Gather’ space can bring that same feeling to others.

With a small child, I celebrate any words on the page and have written a collection of poetry on early motherhood as well as published flash fiction and poetry in anthologies and online journals.

Nancy Gerrard

I have a background in graphic design and art, and write poetry and the odd short story. I love to meld my interests through illustrating my creative writing or through projects such as the Gather zine.

As someone with chronic health issues, I’m passionate about providing an inclusive space for creativity. Writing is a refuge that should feel accessible for everyone! I believe when we practice these things in community it strengthens our work and provides safe connection.
