Join us for a special evening combining cinema and culinary delights with this compelling documentary, followed by Palestinian olive oil tasting and food to celebrate the richness of Palestinian culture and food heritage.
We will be screening 'The People and the Olive', a compelling feature-length documentary that follows a group of American ultra-marathoners running 129 miles across the West Bank. Along the way, they encounter Palestinian olive farmers, and through their journey of replanting uprooted olive trees, they plant hope and build cultural bridges.
Olive Oil Tasting Experience:
In the spirit of the film, we will host a guided olive oil tasting featuring oils from three extraordinary producers:
Zaytoun: A social enterprise supporting Palestinian farmers through fair trade, inspired by a deep love for Palestinian culture, community, and cuisine.
Shorkk: Based in Bristol with roots in Scotland and Lebanon, Shorkk brings high-quality Lebanese ingredients to the UK, supporting local farmers.
Alivusicily: A family-run olive grove from Sicily, now managed to international standards and based in Malmesbury. Alivusicily is one of the few qualified olive oil tasters in the UK.
Following the tasting, enjoy light Mediterranean snacks that pair perfectly with the oils.
Don't miss this unique blend of film, food, and cultural exchange. We look forward to seeing you there!
ACCESS:
The museum is on the 2nd floor of the building and currently only accessible via stairs.
DONATIONS:
All donations raised from this year's festival will be shared between two initiatives dedicated to supporting Palestinian filmmaking and filmmakers: FilmLab Palestine, based in Ramallah, and the children’s animation workshop My Story Became a Film in Gaza.
FilmLab Palestine's mission is “to boost film production and viewership in Palestine by providing the ideal space for filmmakers to convene, evoke learning, exchange experiences, inspire one another, produce film art, while exposing viewers to a diverse repertoire of films.”
My Story became a Film's founder, Haneen Muhammad Koraz, said: "I deeply believe that every person has the right to express themselves freely, and that art making and learning cartoon films is one of the means of free expression, audio-visually, for all segments of society. I tried to change the reality, even if just a little, for the children and women in the tents and I have conducted workshops specifically for children. Children and women draw, color, discuss, play, learn using the photography program, photograph scenes, write stories that express their suffering and reality, draw cartoon characters, and record their voices on film. They have created many cartoon films."
