In Baqa’a refugee camp, Jordan, grain miller Aisha Azzam has spent more than three decades grinding grains and herbs essential to Palestinian cuisine. Through harvesting, milling, cooking and feasting, she keeps alive the tastes, memories, and resilience of a people in exile. Blending humour, warmth and steadfastness, Aisha shows how food binds Palestinians together across generations and displacement.
The evening will be hosted by Sally Azzam — a Palestinian from Nazareth, a wonderful cook, and a BPFF trustee — who will bring Aisha’s food traditions to Bristol with a post-screening food tasting that celebrates the flavours and heritage at the heart of the film.
There will also be olive oil available to buy from the following local providers:
Zaytoun: A social enterprise supporting Palestinian farmers through fair trade, inspired by a deep love for Palestinian culture, community, and cuisine.
Shorkk: Based in Bristol with roots in Scotland and Lebanon, Shorkk brings high-quality Lebanese ingredients to the UK, supporting local farmers.
Alivusicily: A family-run olive grove from Sicily, now managed to international standards and based in Malmesbury. Alivusicily is one of the few qualified olive oil tasters in the UK.
ACCESS:
The museum is on the 2nd floor of the building and currently only accessible via stairs.
