New work in progress from Bristolian artist Laura Phillips

Thursday 26th October 6pm

Perennial gallery, 64 Colston St Bristol BS1 5AZ.

This exhibition showcases work in progress from Philllips' time spent in Mid Wales over the past 8 months. Presented are works drawn from recent research of the CND Cymru archives. Handling this content as well as living in mid wales has prompted her to think about the Welsh landscape, and how one goes about visualizing the commons and the extent of militarism in Wales. Presented are images inspired by various logos or emblems from affiliated grassroots organizations. These include national to local activist groups from religious to environmental groups but all having connection to the mid - west wales area from the 1970 onwards.

This exhibition is more of a sign post or refuge in her practice of making an experimental 16mm documentary on the subject in which she uses artisanal 16mm filmmaking techniques of solorasation, cyanotype. By starting with the archive, appropriating it, refilming it and reframing, Phillips hopes to ask new questions about the legacy of visualizing grassroot, environmental/peace movements from a pre internet age.

Opening hours: 27/28/29 Oct 12-5pm and 30 Oct- 3 Nov by appointment only. Message Perennial Gallery via insta: https://www.instagram.com/perennialgallery/
