The People's Comedy: Independence Day at PRSC
See event details

A event held at PRSC on Friday 4th July. The event starts at 19:00.

The 4th July marks the United States’ Independence Day, a day that, in theory, celebrates anti‑colonialism—when they broke away from the British Empire, once the biggest empire the world had ever known. The United States went on to produce some of the most incisive comic minds—Mark Twain, Lenny Bruce and Whoopi Goldberg—who were all known for challenging authority. And yet the emancipated nation has become the most powerful force the world has ever seen.

This Independence Day, let’s cast a humorous light on the ills that entails, and remember the underdog spirit the day is meant to honour.

WHY THE PEOPLE'S COMEDY?
The People's Comedy formed in 2018 with the aim of platforming comedians with a message (think counter-culture, underrepresented, original) and ensuring that they're paid for their craft. On top of that, no headliners showcasing each act's unique comedic voice.
Also, this night supports the collectively owned PRSC building to grow and thrive. More about them here: https://prsc.org.uk/

✔ raised tens of thousands of pounds for comedians paid in-line with our equal pay structure.

Please note: the more we make through tickets, the more we can pay acts! But please only give as much as you can comfortably.

There is a bar which opens the same time as doors, from 7pm.
The show starts at 7:30pm, so please arrive comfortably before then.
