Strata at PRSC

A event held at PRSC on Saturday 7th December. The event starts at 10:00.

Strata: A Visual Assembly for Homelessness is a two day workshop delivered by IC-Visual Lab and inspired by Frequently Asked Questions by Anthony Luvera and Gerald Mclaverty on show at the People’s Republic of Stokes Croft in Bristol. At the heart of Frequently Asked Questions is an enquiry into the state of legislated support and services available to homeless people across the United Kingdom, through number of questions that inquire about a homeless individual’s right to access to basic living provisions such as shelter, personal safety, health, food, and communication.

Photographs play a critical role in defining homelessness, shaping the way this social issue is understood and acted upon. Using the methodology of The Cage, IC Visual Lab creates a critical space to re-think the imagery commonly used to represent homelessness, and to consider different approaches to their production, consumption and circulation. We will be joined by the archaeologist Rachael Kiddey, who will share her work in the field of ‘collaborative social archaeology’, and the artist Anthony Luvera who will speak about his work with people experiencing homelessness using photography, sound and other media, as well as Frequently Asked Questions. Drawing upon an archive of images brought together from various fields of study, including anthropology, documentary photography, medicine, photojournalism, contemporary art, and social history collections, participants will take part in a range of practical and experimental visual exercises to broaden understandings of this complex issue.

Saturday 7th and Sunday 8th December, 10:00am – 5:00pm
