Gentrification and How to Resist It at PRSC
See event details

A event held at PRSC on Wednesday 23rd March. The event starts at 18:00.

Stokes Croft Land Trust is delighted to welcome Loretta Lees to Bristol.  Urban geographer and professor of Human Geography at Leicester University, Loretta has been studying social and cultural processes within cities for many years, particularly the phenomenon of gentrification, which she has researched and written about extensively.  Based in London for 25 years, Loretta has supported a number of communities on the receiving end of gentrification ‘pressure, particularly the notorious Heygate Estate redevelopment in Southwark.

Loretta will be talking about the experience of 50 years of gentrification around the world, how it has been resisted, and the implication for us here in Stokes Croft.

Tickets are FREE, register for your space here.

The Stokes Croft Land Trust (SCLT) is a direct response to yet more gentrification in Stokes Croft. Join us as we fight back against the faceless corporations and greedy developers taking over our neighbourhood.

Now open to investors, the first community share offer from SCLT aims to raise enough capital to buy 17-25 Jamaica Street & 14 Hillgrove Street (currently home to PRSC HQ), transferring it into community ownership.
