A
event
on Friday 30th May. The event starts at 11:30.
Feeling effervescent? Fancy some fizz? Want to put a sparkle in your step? Join Nature Queerdos at this wheelchair accessible event as we learn to identify and sustainably harvest edible and medicinal plants and make a wildcrafted fermented soda. Together we will learn the principles of creating your own naturally carbonated, probiotic fermented drink from readily available plants and kitchen cupboard materials.
When: Friday 30th May at 11:30am until 2:30pm.
Where: Redcatch Community Garden
Activity: We will start by sharing a herbal drink, a brief grounding exercise and introductions, before learning some key principles about wildcrafted sodas. We will mobilise around the garden for approximately one hour before a lunch break (please bring your own, lunch not provided), following which we will create our own sodas for you to take home with you.
What to bring:
Weather appropriate clothing and footwear
Your own packed lunch and drinks
A bag/container for foraging
Scissors
Gloves
A clean large jar or wide mouth bottle (ideally 500ml-1 litre). Narrow mouthed bottles e.g. wine bottles can be used but are a bit harder.
Access info:
This event is designed to be accessible for wheelchair users. Redcatch has accessible paths and toilets, for more info see here: https://www.redcatchcommunitygarden.com/accessibility. If you would benefit from a carer/personal assistant they can attend for free.
Many of the plants can be seen/reached from the paths, but there may be some that require short deviations off the path to reach, and some people may require assistance with picking plants in a careful way from low to the ground or from safer spots away from path edges. We have an extendable picker which can help those who struggle to reach or bend.
We have a fully accessible sheltered venue (the canopy) for use during our workshop.
Neurodiversity and mental health/ illness:
Come as you are! It’s always OK to take breaks away from the group if needed, wear headphones, stim etc.
Please let us know if you would like a plan of timings and activities or need anything else to engage.
