Fancy a creative Mother's Day activity? Ever wanted to try your hand on the potters wheel? As a mother myself, I know that sometimes its nice to have the excuse (or reminder) to acknowledge and celebrate the journey of Motherhood, with your kid or a friend thats been along the journey with you. Treat your mum (or your mama-self) to this immersive experience for two people and make beautiful pottery to take home as a memoir.
I am an experienced ceramicist and pottery tutor with a decade of pottery throwing experience, and I get a lot of joy out of sharing the knowledge of this ancient craft with others. This workshop is suitable for all abilities; from complete beginners to aspiring potters. In this two hour session, I will be introducing you to the basic techniques of the craft of pottery throwing. You will get a demonstration of each step of the process and then I will guide you throughout the session in the creating of your own classic shapes like bowls, cups and vases. If you already have some experience on the wheel, the session with be totally led by your own personal pottery goals; I can help you achieve them. You will have your own wheel and set of tools throughout the entire workshop.
At the end of the workshop, you will be able to choose 1 of the 5 beautiful coloured glazes I have on offer for your pots. I will glaze and fire two each of your creations for you, included in the price. If you want to keep extra pots you have made, you can with a fee of £7 per pot to cover the extra firing and glazing costs - you can make your mind up about this at the end of the workshop.
This is a welcoming space to be creative, expressive and learn all the foundations you need to make pottery on the wheel. There will be tea & coffee provided, tunes playing, and plenty good studio vibes.

FAQs:
When can I take my pottery home?
Your pottery will be ready to collect from Fishponds Pottery 3-4 weeks after the workshop. Your pottery needs time to completely dry out before being bisque fired, then glazed before going through their final stoneware firing.
Can I use my pottery for food and drink?
Yes. Everything you make will be food safe, dishwasher and microwave safe, unless otherwise stated. All pottery will be fired to stoneware temperature, which means it will be durable and suitable for everyday use.
Is there parking?
If arriving by car, there is a small car park at the studio entrance you can use. If you come by bicycle, there is an enclosed studio garden at studio entrance and you are welcome to leave or lock up your bike anywhere there.
What do I wear?
Wear something comfortable and that you don't mind getting dirty. Aprons are provided but its not guaranteed you wont get some clay on your clothes and shoes!
Is there disability access?
Yes. There are no steps to enter the studio and there are double doors that open both ways for wheel chair access. If you have any additional needs, please let me know in advance so I can do everything I can to accommodate you as much as possible.
