A gig held at Rough Trade Bristol on Thursday 3rd September. The event starts at 20:00.
Gotobeat is proud to bring back deary to Rough Trade Bristol on Thursday 3rd September as part of the band's 'birding' album tour.
Comprised of London/Brighton based musicians Dottie Cockram, Ben Easton and Harry Catchpole, deary released their debut single, ‘Fairground’ back in January 2023 via Sonic Cathedral. Since then they have reached #1 in the UK Vinyl Singles charts, supported Slowdive and Cranes and worked with the likes of Saint Etienne and The Murder Capital.
They have released two EPs to date; deary (2023) and Aurelia (2024), which were universally praised by the likes of BBC 6 Music, NME, Stereogum, Clash and Brooklyn Vegan. They create wistful dream pop, with a wide range of influences from shoegaze to trip hop and have been described as “masters of orchestrating a mood” (DIY).
With their debut album Birding, London dreampop trio have purposely evolved their sound, opting for starker lyrics and heavier instrumentation than on their previous releases. They chose the title to draw attention to the direct impact humans have on the world around us, whether that be nature, or ourselves.
Despite some of the heavy subject matter, the album aims to give the listener a moment to pause, reflect, recalibrate and remind oneself of all the good, happiness and love that can easily be forgotten in everyday life. The importance of protecting the inner child or someone more vulnerable, holding hands, learning from past mistakes. Across 11 tracks that run the gamut from ocean-deep shoegaze riffs to cloud-light sprinkles of ethereal indie, Birding is the sound of a band who have definitively found their groove.
