This is the best adjective to describe the band Far Form Alaska. No one could suspect that from Natal, Rio Grande Do Norte state, Brazil, a city known for it’s tropical beaches with white sand and warm sea, the five members Emmily Barreto (vocals), Cris Botarelli (Steel Guitar, Synths and vocals), Rafael Brasil (guitars), Edu Filgueira (bass) e Lauro Kirsch (drums) would put together a rock band with queer sound that is suprising everyone wherever they pass. Heavy riffs, female vocals and lyrics in English once were very unlikely to succeed where they came from, but today they are one of the main bands in Brazil.
Far From Alaska just finished their second album produced and recorded by Sylvia Massy (Tool, System Of A Down, Johnny Cash, etc.) in her own studio in Ashland Oregon (USA). The album is entitled “Unlikely” and comes out on August 4th, the first single and video of the album named “Cobra” is available on all digital platforms since June 23rd.
A band that's developed a sound so unique, it barely could be described as fitting into any genre.
Back with us for the first time with their current lineup, the Bristol-based trio produce astonishingly complex noise, not always easy to follow, yet somehow still rife with chuggy rhythms that keep our heads nodding and feet tapping.
"The thunderous riffs pummel you, yet are immediate and infectious." - Alt Dialogue
