About Murmurations:
‘Murmurations’ is a photographic study of the shape and form of a starling murmuration, observed through winter 2020-21, intertwined with newly commissioned poetry by Lue Mac.
Throughout the winter of 2020-21, Billy Barraclough and Lue Mac visited starling murmurations independently of each other, and began photographing and writing respectively in response.
As the winter lockdown hit, Billy's visits to a local murmuration at Otmoor became ritualistic; the long trek to the wetlands serving as a moment to reconnect, and also reflect on the surreal situation imposed by the pandemic.
In like spirit and at the same time, writer Lue Mac was making regular visits to a murmuration at a local lake known as Little Sea. The resulting poems touch on themes of separation, reconnection, the moment of touch, and life across seasons.
Later, the two bodies of work were intertwined through a wonderful collaboration into the book Murmurations.

Billy Barraclough is a photographic artist based in London. His work to date explores ideas around identity, emotion and personal history.
