♀️❄️✨
WHAT IS YOUR RELATIONSHIP TO THE SEASON OF LETTING GO, OF LOSS, AND EVEN OF GROWING OLDER AS A WOMAN?
✨❄️♀️
Come join us for a one day womxns embodiment retreat exploring indigenous traditions of Samhain, honouring the Gaelic goddess Calleach, the ‘divine hag’.
EMBODY are offering somatic release, yoga-asana, breathwork, storytelling and ceremony to embody the wisdom of entering winter, whilst exploring the capitalist and patriarchal cultural structures which try to render this half of the sacred cycle non-existent - from our aversion to winter, to the taboo of menstruation, menopause and vilification of post-menopausal women for centuries.
We will play with how the stories of winter show up in our bodies as we draw in the power of the liminal, the hidden, and reclaim the power of intentional rest and our right to revel in the coming darkness.
☕ Erbal teas, chocolate and delish vegan dinner provided!❤️

MORE INFO
In the indigenous Gaelic traditions of North-Western Europe, the festival Samhain began at sunset on the 31st October. This was a time to celebrate the harvest, when the animals were brought in from the fields and preparations were underway for the shorter days and colder nights of winter.
As well as a time for revelry, this was also a moment to acknowledge one's respect for the otherworld: the more-than-human, the dead, the liminal and unknown. In these stories, the embodiment of winter is the Cailleach. Literally meaning 'veiled one', she is the old woman, the divine hag.
Today our preparations for winter are less substantial, even though it remains a physically demanding season for the body. There also seems to be a common aversion to winter that in part reflects the collective ways we make invisible the lives and stories of older women in our communities.
A NOTE ON 'WOMEN'S RETREAT'
We welcome all who identify as women, including those whose gender identifies go beyond normative ideas of 'woman'. We include genderqueer and non-binary folk for whom womanhood is part of their identity. We welcome trans women, and trans-femme folk.
Our disclaimer is that we will be reflecting on our experiences through the lens of historical narratives that have oppressed and undermined the female body, especially relating to characteristics of female-bodied cycles and ageing. We acknowledge that this may bring up dysphoria for some and we intend to care for and learn from these experiences of the women in our community.
