The Theatre of Freedom

The Theatre of Freedom is a new discipline designed by Worms Theatre Company.

This 8-week course builds a toolkit of radical techniques to confront injustice. Through a range of disciplines including: Theatre of the Oppressed, the Work That Reconnects, Deep Ecology, Clowning. We shall explore practical ways in alchemizing the power of community to build a better world. 

The series is divided into two parts: 
1. Living within the troubles: Understanding the present culture and society, the invisible narratives which have been encoded. What are their intentions and who do they serve? How do we reveal them, curb them, redirect them and harness them?
2. A Living Ecology: Practical ways of remembering our place within a reciprocal ecology. Tuning into non-human narratives to find hopeful alternatives for the future. 

The course shall include: 
- Invisible theatre: Staging situations in the world without the public knowing, with the intention to engage people in debate. 
- Media theatre: Examining stories in the media, uncovering biases, vested interests, and how these shape ways of thinking. 
- Subvertisements: Repopulating the streets with anti-consumerist messages, rewriting the culture.

Every Friday 6-8pm from 30th October - 18th December.

Who is it for?
Everyone is welcome. We welcome members of the LGBTQI+ community, including non-binary and trans participants, as well as people with lived experience of marginalisation, neurodiversity, and physical restrictions. We especially invite non-actors, people who are curious, playful, questioning, or longing for new ways of seeing and being.

About the Facilitator
Teddy Monroe, the founder of Worms Theatre Company, is a theatre facilitator and Kuringa trained by Barbara Santos, using the tools of Theatre of the Oppressed to inspire change within the education system.
