Undergrowth Collective and BPC present: Samhain for Gaza

A Festive Day of Music, Bands, Crafts, Masks, Puppets, Art, Stalls, Speakers, Raffle, Food and Song.

Join us this Samhain for a special family-friendly day of festive puppets, masks, music, food and collective song, bringing together local musicians and artists from across the local area to raise vital funds for displaced and malnourished children in Gaza.

Families can get creative with workshops led by Undergrowth Collective, a singing workshop with Georgia from Bristol Palestine Choir sharing Arabic singing and traditional protest songs.

Live music from Palestinian Sound Archive, Firat Kaya, Chai for All and Bristol Palestine Choir. Talks from Leigh Cadno and Bristol Palestinians. Food and cake served all day !

A welcoming space for people of all ages to come together.

Come and be part of a day where creativity, community and collective singing become an act of solidarity and raising money and standing together for Palestine.

Palestinian Sound Archive
The Palestinian Sound Archive was founded by Mo’min Swaitat in 2019 but is comprised of and supported by freelance visual and sound artists, musicians, DJs, curators, organisers and researchers, without whom the work would not be possible. This event will include an introduction to the Palestinian sound archive, short documentary, talk and DJ set. This event explores archival practice as a decolonial methodology and act of resistance, through sharing archival sounds and images that preserve and document Palestinian heritage, culture, celebrating, dance and resistance.There will also be vinyls copies and merchandise for sale from Palestinian sound archive.

Firat Kaya
Fırat Kaya is a Turkish-born multi-instrumentalist, music educator and composer whose musical journey began at the age of six with the saz, bağlama and cura, traditional instruments rooted in Anatolian musical heritage. At twelve, he began studying guitar, developing a particular interest in classical and flamenco styles. His musical exploration later expanded to the fretless guitar, oud, cümbüş and tanbur. Kaya studied Turkish music at the Sivas Turkish Music Conservatory before moving to Istanbul, where he continued his studies, worked as a private music instructor and attended Haliç University Conservatory of Turkish Music. He also had the opportunity to study and work with renowned musician Erkan Oğur, deepening his experience of fretless instruments and Anatolian traditions. Now based in the UK, Kaya works as a studio musician, educator and film music composer/producer, bringing together Turkish and Anatolian traditions with classical, flamenco and contemporary influences.

Chai For All
Chai For All is one of the finest and most entertaining Bristol-based exponents of great global music, its adventurous musicians ricocheting effortlessly between genres, styles, and languages. Performing in Yiddish, English, Ladino, Hebrew, Ukrainian, Turkish, Arabic and Romani, Marianna Moralis’ impassioned vocals drive a wildly eclectic and emotive selection of exquisite songs from Eastern European and Middle Eastern diaspora communities. David Mowat (trumpet), Knud Stüwe (guitar, oud), and Simon Leach (cajón, darbuka, oud) propel the joyous and rousing arrangements with their impressive playing and enormous sense of fun.With fantastic music topped with natural showwomanship, this is an evening guaranteed to raise the spirits.
