A gig on Wednesday 24th January. The event starts at 20:00.

Cuculi Presents an evening with Bristol-based folk quintet Hedera at St Anne's Church (Easton) on Wednesday 24 Jan. The church is next door to Greenbank Cemetery on St Leonard’s Road, BS5 6JN.

Following their more-than-sold-out debut gig at The Greenbank in December 2022, we're thrilled that they're returning to Bristol's live scene now that all their members are back in the UK. The band is something of a supergroup, comprising Tamsin Elliott on harp & accordion, Lulu Ruby Rose and Maisie Brett on violins, Isis Wolf-Light on clarinet & bass clarinet, and Beth Roberts on double bass. Since forming in 2021, they've quickly gained a national reputation for their sumptuous arrangements of trad tunes from across Europe and light-footed, minimalist original pieces. Support from folk legend Sid Goldsmith, playing a rare solo set of original tunes on cittern.

There are three ticket prices available for this show:
General: £13
Community supporter: £16
Low income: £10

We ask that those who make more than £25k per year consider opting for Community Supporter as this allows us to subsidise low income tickets.. We consider low income to apply to those who earn less than £15k per year, but we don’t ask for any proof.

HEDERA

Hedera is a new Bristol-based quintet of instrumentalists brought together by a desire to lean into the slower and more delicate side of European folk traditions.

Their growing repertoire draws on French, English, Eastern European and Scandinavian music, with playful and inventive arrangements that reflect the diverse array of experience brought by members of the band: violinists Maisie Brett and Lulu Ruby Rose, clarinettist Isis Wolf-Light, Bethany M. Roberts on double bass, and Tamsin Elliott on accordion and harp. Intrigued by the combination of strings and reeds that seems to lend itself to effortless arranging, they have also now begun to create original music together. Their debut release ‘Waterwheel’ was composed by Tamsin Elliott and filmed by Elly Lucas in a dramatic Perthshire arboretum; it premiered on Folk Radio on 24 October 2022.
