Folk music may well represent an oral history of the people, but there is nothing common about the quality and beauty of the songwriting and music. Or so say The Unthanks. Well known now for their tangential flights of fancy, Mercury nominated and Radio 2 Folk Award winners The Unthanks take on their ultimate collaboration – an orchestral journey with Charles Hazlewood and Army of Generals. Admirers of The Unthanks will be delighted with this orchestral exploration of their best-loved material from their highly-acclaimed first ten years. Fronted by the timeless storytelling of Tyneside folk singers Rachel and Becky Unthank, with their musical director, composer and pianist Adrian McNally at the helm, The Unthanks aim to show that in terms of emotional resonance and musical beauty, the common folk song is anything but, aided by visionary conductor Charles Hazlewood and this chamber ensemble, Army of Generals.

This captivating evening raises funds for our Building a Sound Future Appeal, with a portion of the ticket price going towards funds and plenty of opportunities to help us meet our target on the night.

“It hits you in your soul rather than your head. I love them.” Adrian Edmondson

“If there was such a thing still as having a favourite band like in the old days, I’d say they were my favourite band.” Paul Morley
