held at St George's Bristol
on Friday 27th March. The event starts at 20:00.
Aynur Doğan is one of the most prominent, and iconic, Kurdish singers in the world today. Her extraordinary voice – both soaring and evocatively sorrowful – expresses the deep and authentic spirit of traditional Kurdish folk music, even when collaborating with musicians from other traditions such as Yo-Yo Ma, Riccardo Muti, Kayhan Kalhor and the Silk Road Ensemble.
Her mission is to keep Kurdish culture alive for future generations, but her music is exploratory, deeply collaborative and timeless. She has performed in London and across the world to global acclaim but this is the first time she has toured the UK, and the first time she has performed in St George’s – a rare opportunity to hear an artist of such rare gifts. Tonight she plays with her seven-piece ensemble.
“To hear Aynur’s voice is to hear the transformation of all the layers of human joy and suffering into one sound. It reaches so deep into our soul, tears into our hearts, and then we are for one moment, joined as one. It is unforgettable.” Yo-Yo Ma
