Mor Karbasi at St George's
£20 / £18 (Plus fees)

A gig held at St George's Bristol on Friday 5th May. The event starts at 20:00pm.

Making her first St George’s appearance since her fabulous debut almost a decade ago, the extraordinary Israeli singer, song-writer and interpreter of traditional material Mor Karbasi returns to Bristol to present the music from her latest album, ‘Ojos De Novia’. Now a major international star with a rich cultural heritage that combines Persian, North African, Spanish, Jewish and Israeli roots, Mor Karbasi first emerged as a vocalist singing lyrics in the ‘lost’ or endangered language of Ladino, the ancient, Judeo-Spanish tongue originally spoken by the Sephardis, the Jews in Spain. Since her first album, ‘The Beauty and the Sea’, Karbasi and her husband and bandleader, the multi-instrumentalist Joe Taylor, have broadened the scope of their music, combining elements from flamenco and North African music with Ladino and Hebrew lyrics, in a beguiling meeting of the ancient and the modern.
