Brahms String Quartet No 2 in A minor Op 51 No 2

Dvo k String Quartet Op 96'American'

Brahms Clarinet Quintet in B minor Op 115

Friendship, gypsy-tinged elegy, and a high spirited'letter from America' weave seductively through our opening concert uniting Bristol alumnus Robert Plane with a Czech foursome as distinguished as its sometime mentor: the legendary Smetana Quartet. Brahms' A minor String Quartet enshrines the motto of his friend Joachim, whilst the autumnal Quintet was inspired by a creative friendship in old age; Dvo k, meanwhile, fashions Bohemian rhapsodies from a brave New World.

This concert is being broadcast live on BBC Radio 3.

'No Other Quartet can play the music quite like the Skampas '
