Ashley Wass piano

Stefan Hofkes conductor

Debussy Images: Ib ria

Liszt Piano Concerto No 1 in E flat

Beethoven Symphony No 5 in C minor

Debussy's'Ib ria' opens this concert and conveys the sights, sounds and scents of Spain: the streets and byways; the fragrance of night; and the morning of festival day! Ashley Wass is a superb artist whom the orchestra is thrilled to welcome back, this time to perform Liszt's dazzling and witty'Piano Concerto No 1 in E flat'. For Beethoven's Fifth Symphony the superlatives could go on forever, but there is perhaps one simple reason why this work has proved to be so enduring: it is a triumph of abstract musical creation that captures and transmits the human spirit.
