Poetry Prom: Forgotten Voices of War Versus Peace at St George's Bristol
See event details

A event held at St George's Bristol on Saturday 22nd November. The event starts at 15:00.

Poetry Prom is a new series at St George’s curated and presented by the cream of Bristol’s spoken word scene, High Art & Mischief. Poetry Prom connects you to great poetry, past and present, read – and sometimes written – by Melanie Branton, Edson ‘Doc’ Burton, Patrick Chandler, Jeremy Toombs and Isabel White. Spend a thoughtful hour exploring wordsmiths and words that changed the world.

In this season finale, fittingly (it’s remembrance month), High Art & Mischief ponders the question ‘Who’ll win the match of the day?’, with a little help from Paul Eluard, Ilya Kaminsky, Alice Meynell; remembering forgotten voices of war and peace, bringing our journey right up to date with recent conflicts in Ukraine and Gaza, the desperate plight of the poorest people in Yemen, and sub Saharan Africa, and anyone oppressed just for being different. We’ll finish with a few words of hope for the future, just from us.
