Laid Blak, stripped-back and unplugged at St George's this Autumn
A slightly different sound will be emanating from the rooftops of St George's concert hall on 19th September when local urban reggae heavyweights, Laid Blak perform their first ever acoustic set, complete with string quartet at the world-class venue.
Fresh from Glastonbury, Boomtown, Shambala and countless summer festivals, Laid Blak are quickly establishing a name for themselves as Bristol's'essential live act'. The eight-piece band brings together some of city's finest musicians delivering a diverse live set of urban reggae with tinges of jazz, funk, soul, hip-hop and ska thrown in for good measure.
In Laid Blak's journey so far they have supported big name acts such as Ed Sheeran (who also covered one of their songs, 'Red'), Desmond Dekker, Nitin Sawhney, Julian Marley, John Legend and Luciano. They have lit up Glastonbury, Brisfest, Boom Town and Shambala and set people dancing at carnivals all over the UK, including St Pauls. Their increasing global appeal has prompted rave reviews and an award for'Best Northern Europe Reggae band.'
The band are signed to Reel Me Records, Bristol's biggest independant label, whose support has seen Laid Blak elevate to new pastures of success, as they begin to get the recognition they deserve.
Laid Blak's music tackles some powerful political and social issues around life in the city and band members are active supporters and fundraisers for Bristol-based charity, The Grand Appeal, raising money performing charity sets and parachuting from the Bristol skies a band with a heart and a Bristol soul.
Suzanne Rolt, Director, comments, 'St George's is renowned as having one of the best live music acoustics in Britain and an intimate setting for musicians from around the globe. We are really excited by this Bristol-based collaboration and the stripped-back nature of this performance will really suit St George's and hopefully reach out to new audiences.'
The 19th September performance, which is being recorded for their forthcoming album release, will include a one-off acoustic set, complete with a string quartet, followed by an intimate Q&A session and a full band set.
