It’s a pleasure to be able to welcome Dame Mitsuko Uchida back to St George’s, the remarkable pianist was honoured last year at the Saltzburg Mozartwoche and awarded a ‘Golden Mozart Medal’. This evening she performs a sublime programme of Mozart and Schumann, including the latter’s kaleidoscopic Kreisleriana, one of the composer’s personal favourites. Mozart’s Sonata in C enjoys the nickname ‘Sonata facile’, given its apparent simplicity, but it remains a perennial favourite. Either way, it ought to be a walk in the park for this most gifted of pianists.
