Ulrich Gerhartz , Director of Concert and Artists Services at Steinway & Sons, gives a fascinating talk about this most magnificent of instruments, covering its history and evolution into the dominant stringed keyboard instrument as well as highlighting Steinway's role in creating what is now regarded as the preferred choice and standard of a performance piano.

Ulrich Gerhartz continues to work closely with artists including Mitsuko Uchida, Andr s Schiff, Murray Perahia and Paul Lewis and enjoyed accompanying Alfred Brendel over 20 years.

In this talk he shares the'secrets' of keeping the world's finest pianos in tune including our own Steinways which Ulrich has helped to select and tend to over the past 20 years.
