Heroic Music for Strings, Trumpets, & Drums
Programme includes music by:
Biber, Schmelzer, Vejvanovsky & Bertali
Pioneering period instrument ensemble Spiritato makes its St George’s debut with its most ambitious project to date. ‘Lead vivaciously by violinist Kinga Ujszaszi’ (The Times) the ensemble presents music inspired by the imagery of war and peace, in an age of heroism and chivalry. Featuring works by Biber and Schmelzer, the ensemble will blend the martial sound of trumpets and drums with inventive and reflective pieces for strings – a showcase of all the pomp and majesty of an Imperial Court at the height of its powers. From Fux’s vibrant depiction of the siege of Vienna, to the taverns and gun-shots of Biber’s famous Battalia, we explore the transformation of the noise of battle into glorious Art music.
