Murmuration Choir is very excited to announce a long-awaited returning concert, after what feels like a long long Winter into a Spring of Springs. We shall be picking up where we left off, honouring the collaboration with Aisha Vaughan (previously known as Chaouche) that was planned to happen before the pandemic hit, exactly 2 years ago. In this significant moment of recapitulation, the choir shall be supporting Aisha in the release of her latest EP - ‘The Age of Aquarius’ - performed on piano and joined by cellist Jo Silverston (Mesadorm) and violinist Ben Mowat (Murmuration Choir), in the breathtakingly magical, newly refurbished church-venue, St. Michael’s on the Mount (Without). The music will be stunning, but it’s worth it just to come and sit under the painted ceiling and hanging infinity sculpture of this ambient space.
In short, expect an immersive opportunity for cathartic reflection, reinvigoration of the senses, and a boosted connection to the power of people and beauty.
AISHA VAUGHAN (8.30 pm)
“Channelling the hymnal qualities of Cat’s Eyes with the dense vocals of Medúlla-era Björk” - The Line of Best Fit
“Been playing Aisha on a loop all week" - Lauren Laverne, BBC 6 Music
“Beautiful" - Huw Stephens, Radio 1
Both Gothic and soothing, Aisha Vaughan shares a personal story of healing and transformation - a perfect fit for our post-pandemic process of phoenix-rebirth. Spending her childhood growing up in Swansea before moving to Bristol to develop her practise as a songwriter / producer, Aisha’s delicate piano playing features prominently in her sound, and is bolstered by balanced production of her own massed vocals, cello, violin and an obsession with reverb and delay. Her sound has often been underpinned with programmed drums and sub-bass, but tonight, Murmuration Choir will join Aisha on striped-back, acoustic versions of several of her songs, including tracks from her first album ‘Safe’, and new tracks from recently released EP ‘Age of Aquarius’ - an ambient homage to the environmental chaos, tragedy and beauty that exists in the world today.
We shall also be performing Aisha’s version of ‘Ordinary World’, which leads the soundscape in the trailer for the epic, post-apocalyptic fairytale Netflix series, ‘Sweet Tooth’.

MURMURATION CHOIR (9.45 pm)
In under a year of forming in 2018, Murmuration Choir quickly became one of Bristol's most exciting and progressive vocal projects, bringing together a collective of the city’s finest singers and curating sell-out collaboration shows with the likes of Rachael Dadd, Sam Brookes, Cosmo Sheldrake and Mesadorm. Inspired by 6Music DJs, and artists who are at the leading edge of re-defining the future of popular music and its place in our social and environmental evolution - Murmuration’s repertoire draws from Neo-Soul, Electronica, Indie and Experimental Pop, arranged into 4-8 part harmony with the emotive signature sound of local musician and choir director, Isolde Freeth-Hale (ISOLDÉ). Beatbox accompaniment from Jack Salt (Ushti Baba, The Inexplicables) & Simon Abel.
Tonight we shall be sharing 2 new choral renditions of pieces by Alt-J and Dominique Fils Aimé, and a first live performance of Pete Josef’s ‘Spring At Last’, which was recently recorded and featured in wildlife documentary ‘Garden of a Thousand Bees’ (Passion Pictures) that aired on Sky (UK) and PBS (US). We will also enjoy solos from from guest singers Laura Goucher, & Kitty Stewart.
