How to Beat Fascism: Fighting the Far-Right in the 21st Century at St Paul's Learning Centre
See event details

A event on Thursday 19th February. The event starts at 19:00.

The far right internationally pose a growing threat. Trump in the US, together with the advances here of Reform UK in the electoral arena, boosts the confidence of fascists like Tommy Robinson. Robinson wants to build a street movement which can intimidate and terrorise not just people of colour, Muslims and refugees but progressive activists and the Left more generally. The violence of ICE in Minnesota, violence which Reform would need to bring to the UK to realise their stated aim of 650,000 forced deportations, highlights the seriousness and immediacy of the threat. But it also demonstrates that ordinary people can successfully organise to push back. There is a complex and urgent challenge of applying the lessons of past anti-fascist struggle in the particular political situation we find ourselves in now. - What makes fascism unique and what the are new ways in which it is attempting to take root? - How should we understand the idea of the United Front in the current period? - What is the relation between the fight against fascism and the wider struggle against the capitalist system which breeds it? Come along and join in the discussion. Hosted by Bristol SWP.
