Cowfolk Radical film club:St Pauls and the uprising at St Pauls learning Centre Bristol
No one Turn away for lack of funds

A event on Monday 23rd March. The event starts at 18:15.

A powerful film screening and discussion exploring Black resistance in Bristol.

Easton Cowfolk Radical Film Club launches a 3-part series on the history, struggle and resilience of Black communities in the UK, with a specific focus on Bristol.

Part 1 (23/03/26) highlights the discrimination, racism and oppression faced in recent decades, providing history and context that are often overlooked. It also explores the resistance of the community in the struggle to be treated as human beings – seeking equality and justice within systems that were not built for us.

This event will be hosted by Dr Edson Burton, a local historian and writer.

The evening will include:

* Music from a St Paul’s artist
* Screening of the landmark documentary, Blacks Britannica (1978), examining racism, policing, political struggle and Black resistance in Britain – issues that remain deeply relevant today
* One or two short films, including archival footage of St Paul’s in the 1980s
* Panel discussion with Rubba, a prominent member of the community, sharing his lived experiences
* Audience contributions and Q&A

This community event is open to everyone – whether you’re familiar with this history or discovering it for the first time. No prior knowledge is needed.

After the event, we warmly invite you to join us at a local pub to connect and spend time together in a relaxed setting.

_Presented by Easton Cowfolk Radical Film Club, in collaboration with members of the St Paul’s community._
