See event details

A event on Monday 2nd December. The event starts at 18:00.

Tara Miran is a vibrant force within Bristol's community, dedicated to creating spaces for connection, diversity, and inclusion. A proud Kurd from Southern Kurdistan, Tara’s life has been shaped by her heritage, resilience, and dedication to the ethos of “Jin, Jiyan, Azadi” (Women, Life, Freedom), rooted in the Kurdish Feminist Liberation Movement. Her work spans across inclusion, equity, and civic engagement, partnering with communities to bridge divides and foster change.

Tara’s contributions, from initiatives like the Bristol Women’s Voice City Listening Project and award-winning St Pauls Community Garden to her roles with Global Goals Centre and The Bristol Cable, reflect her commitment to empowering voices and building equitable, inclusive spaces. Working collaboratively and engaging with assets effectively to bridge inequalities and divides, while influencing change from the grassroots up, as well as top-down, are vital to Tara’s work. She continues working towards sustainable systematic change. Tara consults and advises on matters of equality, inclusion and equity, to enrich knowledge, understanding, and working practices in engaging inclusively with communities from the Global Majority. She brings a unique perspective on allyship, gained from her lived experiences as a first-generation migrant child and community leader.

In this session, Tara will share her journey and explore the role of allyship in today’s diverse world. She will begin with an insight into her lived experience as a first-generation migrant child escaping persecution and genocide. Tara will also share how the stories, spirit, and faces of Kurdish resistance, and the Kurdish feminist liberation movement have been an unwavering source of strength and grounding for her in Bristol, and how it’s shaped her career motivations. Tara will then talk about the importance of allyship and why we should all aim to be more meaningful and proactive in our lifelong allyship journeys and attempts. You’ll have a chance to engage in an interactive activity, a Q&A session with Tara, and opportunities to delve deeper and make an active allyship pledge!
Don’t miss this chance to connect with Tara and learn how each of us can take proactive steps toward a more inclusive and just society.
