on Thursday 26th February. The event starts at 19:00.
Far right Reform Uk MP Danny Kruger said this week that Britain is “suffering from having a totally unregulated sexual economy”. He is mourning the end of the traditional family which was a prison for so many. And it ties in with the viciously transphobic and bigoted outlook we see in the statements of Nigel Farage, promising to “ban transgender ideology in schools” and sneering at “pronoun swapping”.
This meeting will explore how the oppression experienced by LGBT+ people has material roots in the way society is reproduced through the privatised family set up.
Recognising these roots has important implications for how we think about liberation and how it can be achieved.
We must fight in the here and now against the torrent of transphobia—and we can win reforms to make trans+ people’s lives better. But is it really possible to win trans+ liberation under capitalism?
If not, and wider systemic transformation is necessary, is that actually realistic? What can we learn from previous revolutionary struggles in terms of challenging structures of oppression? How can we take on the far right fuelled wave of bigotry and sowing of division?
Come along and join in the discussion. Hosted by Bristol Socialist Workers Party.
