Is Anarchism More Radical Than Marxism? at St Pauls Learning Centre
See event details

A event on Today. The event starts at 19:00.

Anarchism has always had a strong appeal for those people - especially younger people - who rebel against this rotten society. In the face of rampant exploitation and injustice, the overwhelming power of the capitalist state and the stifling grip of its ideology, anarchism hurls a defiant "NO". It says we do not have to live like this. There does not have to be war, racism, oppression, ecocide, and there doesn't have to be domination of the vast majority of humanity by a tiny minority exemplified by the corrupt billionaire class and its established political enablers.

But do these noble aims and a powerful and varied appeal mean that this political ideology has the potential to achieve the goals it proclaims? Is it capable of guiding the struggle for human emancipation to its victorious conclusion? This meeting will explore these questions through a comparison with a Marxist perspective - considering key questions of, for example, the state, leadership, and the party. What do actual examples of anarchist practice in great historical periods of revolutionary struggle show us about its strengths and weaknesses? Come along and join in the discussion. All welcome.

Hosted by Bristol Socialist Workers Party.

What to expect at this meeting
An informal, friendly and welcoming atmosphere, in which a speaker will initially introduce the main topic before we break into smaller group discussion. Then we’ll come back together again for a wider discussion and questioning followed by a summing up. The second section of the meeting involves a more practical focus on current activities and campaigns. There will also be a bookstall and publicity for upcoming events.
