Fabio Ferri Quintet + 30 Circles + Art Exhibition at St Stephen's Church
Headfirst Editor's Pick

"Madcap jazz-fusion meets avant-garde classical meets art exhibition in the 15th century hallows of Saint Stephen’s church. Fabio IS Bristol’s answer to Frank Zappa, leading his quintet down proggy rabbit holes in front of a selection of paintings - with ethereal saxophone-scapes from 30 Circles too. Mind-boggling!"

About the Artists
"I feel way better about being a tiny creature in a chaotic world now" Sofar Sounds about Fabio Ferri Quintet
Fabio Ferri Quintet blends metal and rock sensibility with avant-garde compositions. Fabio composes elaborate yet listenable musical experiences. The pay-off for listening through is well worth it. Challenging yet exciting, Ferri and his eponymous Quintet blend the best of jazz heritage with new musical frontiers. Since forming the Quintet in 2022, Fabio has played at Standon Calling, Shambala and How the Light Gets In. In 2023, he supported drummer and avantgarde composer Sean Noonan, one third of Bourne Bardon Noonan. He has also headlined festivals such as Belfire at Loco Klub and Frameshifter at Sparks.

Exhibition
Ever the experimenter, Ferri has collaborated with many artists to turn sound into colours. Over the years, Fabio has invited many artists to interpret his music through colour and shape. An exhibition of art inspired by his previous performances will illustrate music on canvas. Turning sounds into shapes, songs into colours and beats into brushstrokes, every one of them has a story. And they’re all on display for you to immerse yourself in.

30 Circles encompasses the repertoire of ambient soundscapes performed and produced by Dave Colebourn, a professional saxophonist based in Bristol, UK. If there's one thing to know, it's that every single sound from 30 Circles is played live from a woodwind instrument of some kind. Dave draws from a wide variety of influences, perhaps best described as a chilling fusion of film soundtracks and minimalist music, and adds a free-flowing combination of richly textured melodies and improvisation to create truly unique music for woodwinds.
