"A hypnotic journey into industrial dream logic, with multi-disciplinary oddball invocations from composer Liam O’Connell preluded by Deems’ transcendental solo piano. Warped clarinet motifs drift through double-bass thrum and Eraserhead-inspired digital debris, while eerie projections and puppet shadows twist across the church walls. Descend!"

Transcendental Promotions presents: ✵✜ PULSION ✜✵
✵ PULSION is a progressive clarinet-led project with shadow puppetry, live projections & immersive art performance. Rooted in ritual and transformation, it unfolds as a totemic experience moving through spaces of existential dread and wonder, blending ancient practices with contemporary expression to reimagine the interior of an ancient Bristol church.
✜ Composer LIAM O’CONNELL (Leeem, My Octopus Mind) presents an expanded live composition for clarinet quartet with double bass and live electronic effects. Inspired by David Lynch’s Eraserhead (1977), the work fuses experimental jazz, neo-classical, and progressive rock. The music pulses between raw acoustic force and processed textures, creating a sound world that feels both intimate and otherworldly — an ancient/contemporary ritual poised on the edge of dysfunction.
✵ Visual artists ARACELI CABRERA & OTTO COX create a visual counterpart using shadow puppetry, artefacts & multi-layered live projections. Large-scale moving shadow forms echo myth, memory, and transformation, while evolving light and texture respond directly to the music, reshaping the architecture of the space in real time.
✜ Opening the night is experimental pianist DEEMS, a Bristol-based composer known for his work with Deems Experiment, who draws on jazz, classical, and progressive rock. This time, he's pushing the boundaries of his own expression to write longer-form solo piano music.
Expect a soul-soothing emotional journey, with moments of challenge, as Deems explores more rugged, angular rhythmic and harmonic terrain with influences from Brad Mehldau, Craig Taborn, and Elliott Galvin.
✵ The promoter, Transcendental Promotions (Fabio Ferri), is supported by the Early Career Promoter Fund, which is managed by PRS Foundation and funded by Arts Council England using Supporting Grassroots Music funding from DCMS.
