Top Ranking returns for the third installment of First Friday Tingalings @ The Star & Garter, and this month we are joined by the legendary Daddy Freddy!!
Born in Kingston JA, Daddy Freddy was taken under legendary deejay Ranking Joe's wing as a youngster, who taught him the art of soundsystem deejaying. He later went on to become one of Jamaica's most revered deejays of the mid 80s, and had a string of top 10 hits on the island.
In 1987 Freddy moved to England, where he collaborated with Asher D to produce an album called'Raggamuffin Hip-Hop', which was a groundbreaking fusion of Ragga & Hip-hop. This influenced a new wave of new deejays including Top Cat & Tenor Fly, who were just breaking onto the scene at the time. Freddy went on to become and international star, and was invited to play at Nelson Mandela's 70th birthday concert in London.
In more recent years Freddy has toured the world with the likes of Mungo's Hifi, The Bug & Reggae Roast, and continues to mash up the mic like no one else can!
