A
clubnight
on Thursday 12th December. The event starts at 21:00.
Our guest DJ’s, Ashwut Intl is a duo of Killa Jo and his daughter Bela. Killa Jo is a 2nd generation record collector and sound man. He is the son of Joe Ontiveros, who in the early 90s was one of the first to put out a series of rare sweet soul and doo wop ballad compilation cassettes under the moniker "Nite Owl Music" out of Bassett California, a neighborhood just east of Los Angeles.
Growing up in an environment filled by music and the appreciation of vinyl records, Jo himself began collecting everything from rare punk to jazz and classic country to 60s Jamaican rarities.
Through his appreciation for classic Jamaican music, he started Ashwut Intl., the only Native American operated sound system in California. Record collecting has become a family thing as his daughter Bela is now a 3rd generation collector, DJ and radio show host.
After decades of collecting vinyl of various genres, this is a unique opportunity to showcase some soulful Jamaican classics, along with the sweet soul music, that has been embedded as part of the Southern California culture for decades.
