1020 Radio 4th Birthday: Alexander Nut & Residents at Stokes Croft Beer Garden

A clubnight on Saturday 7th September. The event starts at 14:00.

We are turning 4 and thought there would be no better way to celebrate than inviting a radio veteran down to join us for a day in the sun alongside a bunch of our resident DJ's from the station.

Line up:

Alexander Nut
Alexander Nut has made a name for himself as one of the UK’s most diverse and influential Dj’s. Having honed his skills at London’s legendary Plastic People nightclub, and though 8 years of broadcasting on the then pirate Rinse FM, the highly respected DJ's unique vision has seen him play to some of the finest dance floors around the globe. An avid record collector, uninhibited by tempo or time zone, his expansive taste and knowledge draws heavy on influences from House, Soul, Hip Hop, Jazz, Afrobeat, Reggae and Funk.

Alex is also the man behind Eglo Records, the label he co-founded with Floating Points in 2008, after discovering and managing the then emerging artist. Eglo is home to some of the most exciting, forward thinking music coming out of the UK. Responsible for seminal releases from Henry Wu, Fatima, Funkineven, Byron The Aquarius, Steve Spacek, Anderson Paak and many more. His role as a freelance A&R has seen him curate projects for the likes of Bonobo, Beatspacek and Mr Scruff amongst others.

Alex is also a veteran radio show host, serving the airwaves for well over a decade. As one of Rinse FM’s standout Dj’s since it’s early pirate days, he ended his regular Saturday daytime slot after 8 straight years, embarking on a new musical chapter over at NTS in 2015, cementing his position as one of the most important selectors and tastemakers on British radio. In the tradition of his Dj forefathers, Alexander Nut plays the game in the name of Peace, Love, Unity and having Fun.

Kiia
A DJ and producer based in Bristol, Kiia has spent the last 5 years building her artistic profile within the musically rich landscape that Bristol currently has to offer. Co-founder of popular Bristol event series Cue, a residency at Bristol’s experimental D.I.Y night Dialogue, and monthly shows on 1020 Radio and Noods radio, Kiia is very much in demand.
Kiia's refreshing mixing style and approach to track selection, often sees her pull for less conventional dance music sub genres and bpm ranges to keep things fresh. Moving through a rich variety of flavours and moods, Kiia instinctively creates blends between sounds that not only complement one another, but that also juxtapose. Techno/House variants rub shoulders effortlessly with touches of classic breaks and UK Garage, carrying the ear through a diverse blend of peaks and troughs, all whilst maintaining that characteristic UK approach to experimentation.

Red
RED is a DJ and producer from Cardiff living in Bristol. She has had a busy year including launching her record label, Red Waxxx and running her events at RED ROOM alongside finishing her degree and she’s got more exciting things to come starting in September.
She will be stepping away from her 1020 show genre for this one and putting the northern soul records away for an electro set.

Sonic B2B Ellis Roberts
A relatively new addition to Bristol nightlife, Ellis Roberts is quickly making waves across the city thanks to her alternative take on Bristol’s unique sound. Graduating from Bristol’s Mix Nights in 2018, her eclectic sets quickly earned her a residency at Motion. Travelling through elements of house, electro, techno and garage - you can expect her to draw for music from all genres!
B2B
Sonic’s DJ sets tell a story, whether it’s a ferocious electro onslaught or a downtempo journey through the more mellow records in his bag - you can expect some joyous surprises. His first 12” on Midnight Love Records displays this contrast perfectly: it’s laced with aggressive drums and nostalgic synths, each complimenting each other perfectly. Although a long Bristolian resident, his connection to dusty European landscapes always shines through, whether it’s a DJ set, productions or live performances.

French Kiss
French Kiss is a Bristol based party, and DJ collective. The group consists of 1020 Radio residents, Ellison, and Zach Hollows, with Louis Marshfield completing the trio. French Kiss is all about hosting quality events, inviting top drawer headliners, and making sure everyone is having an ace time. Longstanding 1020 resident Zach Hollows will be taking the reins for this set, so expect House, Techno, and everything in between!

Junior Sagoe B2B Jnthan
Junior Sagoe has been producing and DJing for quite some time now. His roots are embedded in Soul & Hip Hop which gives him a unique sample-heavy style. These elements help to create his sonically pleasing soulful take on house music
B2B
Jnthan started the Rubbish Heap imprint when presented with an opportunity to run a party in the local area (with graphic design help from close friend Andy). He comes from a musical background & is a highly skilled pianist. Having been producing & DJing for a long time, he has developed a unique sound over the years. His productions are very melody driven and normally feature examples of his comprehensive piano playing ability. His sets infuse ghetto house, jazz, soul and techno whilst always keeping melody driven dancing at the forefront.

Dissident - DJ
Dissident by name, dissident by nature. A 1020 resident since the very beginning, this man is as fearless in his selection as he is with his rotating weapons of choice. An ever changing, stone cold nonconformist, his diverse and fluctuant musical dynamic is one of the most distinctive that we know of. Known for his unpredictable, open-format style he blends and marries what seems to be an endless myriad of styles and genre’s you may never expect to be unified. We never know what to expect from him, but what we can always be sure of, is that it will indeed be special.

Jean Val George
Flitting between ambient, dubby soundscapes, downtempo chuggers and flickering melodic breaks, Jean Val George has spent the past year honing his sound on the Bristol airwaves both at 1020 & Noods Radio.

His Fruit Jams show takes a thematic angle each each month, diving deep into cityscapes, label stories and pivotal historical moments. He's often found shoulder to shoulder with housemate, radio partner and local talent Mehndi-B, pulling for the darker sides of house, techno and electro. Come down early for some cosy, broken beat selections to warm the floor.
