A
clubnight
held at Strange Brew
on Friday 1st October. The event starts at 22:00.
For our first party we're delighted to invite some of our favourite DJs, Record labels and party starters to Bristol's best new music venue for a night of cosmic global sounds!
Kalita Records:
Chris Webb is a London-based DJ and founder of Kalita Records, a record label responsible for some of the biggest disco, boogie and Afro reissues to be released in the past few years.
The label continually receives support from tastemakers such as Gilles Peterson, Hunee, Antal, Palms Trax and more, and Chris will be bringing crates of groove heavy and upcoming tunes for the night ahead to show you what Kalita’s all about.
Good Block:
Andrew Watson and Richard Foe form London based DJ duo / producers / designers / promoters - Good Block.
Nomadic and sporadic in form and function, their parties are centred around danceable odd-ball gems and have hosted the likes of Jamie Tiller, Esa, John Gomez, Selvagem, Africaine 808, Bradley Zero, Cosmic Slop, Nick The Record, Jonny Rock, DJ Okapi, Jon K, Apiento and many more.
In March 2019 - after a series of DJ friendly edits issued gratis - Good Block put out their first fully fledged EP of original material ‘4 Corners E.P’; a composite soup of influences and styles from around the Orb, trekking through slow jungle chug, cosmic Caribbean Juno jams, Japanese synth pop snares and New-Age meanderings.
Their DJ sets cover a wide range of sounds from across the globe: Balearic, Synth Pop, Proto House, African Disco, Kwaito, Caribbean Disco, Reggae / Dancehall and other worldly treasures. Over the past few years they have played on NTS Radio, Red Light Radio, Worldwide FM, LYL Radio as well as parties / sets at Brilliant Corners, Five Miles, The Yard, V&A, Tate Modern, Glastonbury, Nuits Sonores and many established EU/UK clubs and festivals.
Satsumas:
Charlie from Satsumas is a Noods radio resident and helps run the Planet Caravan record store in Strange Brew, so he knows his tunes! A local legend, party starter and all round nice guy, his DJ sets are always fun and playful. Expect to hear a mix of Synth Pop, New Beat, New Wave, Balearic and anything else he might feel like playing.
Murphy McFly (AkA Spud Roots):
Spud is a Noods resident and hosts a monthly show called 'Back to the Future' where he digs for lost gems from the 80s and beyond with a 'cosmic' sound. Expect to hear a range of cosmic international sounds like Zouk, African Boogie, Digi, Italo and more.
