corto.alto is the brain-child of award winning multi-instrumentalist, composer & producer Liam Shortall. Hailing from Glasgow, this genre defying producer brings together influences from Hip-Hop, Broken Beat, Electronica, Dub etc, with an informed Jazz sensibility.
His last E.P release 'Not for Now' (Released on our own 'Worm Discs' November 2021) amassed over 1 million streams across digital streaming platforms, as well as receiving multiple plays from Gilles Peterson's show on BBC Radio 6, as well as plays on BBC Radio 2, BBC Radio Scotland, Worldwide FM and more. corto.alto has also been awarded 'Best Band' and 'Best Release' in the Scottish Jazz Awards in 2020. This release also sawl playlist support from Spotify (State of Jazz, Jazz UK, 21st Century, Fusion Fest), Apple Music, Deezer, and magazines such as Jazz Wise, Disco Pogo, Snack Mag and Jazz Revelations.
The project's live incarnation has sold out London's legendary Ronnie Scott's Jazz Club, as well as playing dozens of live performances at festivals such as Love Supreme, We Out Here, Kelburn Garden Party, Edinburgh Jazz Festival and Shambala. corto.alto have also embarked on two UK Tours, selling out shows in Bristol, London, Edinburgh, Leeds and Manchester.
The new album 'Bad With Names' is a step forward and further refinement of the corto.alto sound and drops fully October 6th.
We are elated to welcome them back to Bristol on the 'Bad With Names' tour, this time at the wonderful Strange Brew!
