"WARNING: beatscene originator in a post-punk/goth/no-wave nostalgia collision for industrial partystarters extraordinaire, Slack Alice. Flylo called him “one of the most influential DJs of the beat movement”, but now hear Kutmah exorcise his downtown LA-sleaze by flipping P.I.L, Sonic Youth and Depeche Mode into a Lynchian dancefloor rumble.

A
clubnight
held at Strange Brew
on Friday 30th September. The event starts at 22:00.
As the progenitor of the Sketchbook night in Hollywood, Scottish/Egyptian DJ Kutmah was one of the original ambassadors for the beat sound which became a global movement by the end of the last decade. Since then, he's toured the world and opened for the likes of Sonic Youth, Yoko Ono, Public Enemy, MF DOOM and Shabazz Palaces, holds down the monthly 'Sketchbook' slot on NTS Radio and has released records on Ninja Tune subsidiaries, Big Dada and Technicolour.
After being exiled from the US (long story), he now resides in Berlin. But before all that, his most recent 'LIVE FROM THE KONTROL FAKTORY' mixes channeled his teenage years growing up in LA. In his own words:
''ONCE MY MUM FELL ASLEEP I WOULD SNEAK OUT AND GO SKATE THE CHURCH BY MY HOUSE OR SOME NIGHTS WE WOULD GO TO KONTROL FAKTORY IN HOLLYWOOD AND DANCE OUR HEADS OFF OR PLAY POOL WHILE SOME DUDE WAS GETTING WHIPPED BY A DOMI ...
THE BAND BABYLAND WOULD DRUM WITH CHAINSAWS ON METAL LIDS AND LET OFF FULL CANS OF AIR FRESHENERS ... THAT SHIT SMELLED HORRIBLE
….I'M TRANSPORTING YOU TO THESE EXCITING TIMES WITH A TASTE OF THE BAR SCENE FROM FIRE WALK WITH ME''.
Catch him for an extended minimal wave/goth/post-punk/cold-wave/everything-in-between session at Strange Brew, alongside Slack Alice residents Anina, Kelan, Nadoone & Yokel.
