Jonny Nash (Melody as Truth, Scotland)

Combining elements of washed-out guitar textures, e-bow and electronics, Jonny Nash has emerged as one of the key artists in the new wave of ambient music. Tonight he performs a duo set with Japanese cello player Tomo Katsurada.

Born and raised in Scotland, Nash's early influences were taken from a stint working in Tibetan monastery in Northern India and a move to Japan in early 2000’s. The latter saw him link up with DJ and digger-extraordinaire Chee Shimizu, where their shared love of italo-disco records saw him become involved in the the Discossession collective & parties in Tokyo. These took inspiration from weirder edges of genres including progressive rock, new age, jazz and ambient.

Nash's own early productionsgrew from this, releasing on labels like ESP Institute and Crue-l records earned the support of heavyweights Francois K and David Mancuso. Since then his sound began to move more towards ambient and new age. A subsequent relocation to Amsterdam in 2016 coincided with the launch of his label, Melody As Truth. A run of solo records have cemented his now signature sound of contemplative, spacious yet melodic ambient. It has been picked up by influential label Music from Memory and proved popular with creators of fllms and television series including HBO and Netflix.

His reputation has been further cemented through his work as part of Gaussian Curve, the ‘ambient super-group’ he formed alongside ambient pioneer Gigi Masin and Dutch producer Young Marco. Gaussian Curve’s two albums, and especially debut set Clouds, are now considered classics of the genre.

Aside from his activities as a producer, Nash is a regular live performer and has toured his solo show all over the world. He was also worked on a variety of audio-visual projects, including a 2019 installation with Japanese artist Yoshirotten, and an appearance at the Venice Biennale alongside Xavier Veihlan.

Ezra Feinberg

Ezra Feinberg is an American composer-guitarist, a practising psychoanalyst and former founding member of the San Francisco-based collective Citay. The highly acclaimed third album ‘Soft Power’ (2024) saw Feinberg enlist an impressive array of fellow musicians including Mary Lattimore, David Moore (Bing & Ruth), Jefre Cantu-Ledesma, Robbie Lee and more. Defined by its abundance of melodies, repeating figures and ecstatic improvisations, Soft Power exudes an enlightened and transformative spirit to empower the listener. Recorded in New York by regular collaborator and engineer John Thayer, it follows previous albums ‘Recumbent Speech’ (2020) and ‘Pentimento and Others’ (2018). Feinberg was also a key contributor on the Arp album ‘Zebra’ in 2018.

Feinberg currently resides in New York’s Hudson River valley.

Ezra on his album 'Soft Power':

“Much like everyday life, I wanted to convey these very plain, simple, tranquil, nearly quotidian aspects, but each piece contains this arc in which that form expands, is broken out of, so what starts out like a painting of flowers in a seaside motel turns into a riot of color and sound, or you feel slipped into a dream that feels like it could go on forever”
